International Collaboration Strategies of Iwate University

Looking towards the future, Iwate University has formulated the Iwate University Vision 2030, with the belief that a concrete path to the realization of this vision should be considered together with students, faculty, and staff, and created in cooperation. To realize this vision, Iwate University has unified in establishing their Code of Conduct as "Co-Thinking and Co-Creation (Thinking and Creating Together),".

We will introduce international exchange and international collaboration in line with the Iwate University Vision 2030 below.

Educational Goals

To contribute to the achievement of a multicultural society in an age of advancing globalization, and to produce human resources capable of tackling the challenges presented by an age of unpredictability.

Strategy

Cultivate highly skilled specialists who have acquired the ability to respond to globalization and play an active role in the international community. In the age of advancing globalization, there is a growing need for both strengthened language skills, such as in English, and mutual understanding and coexistence with different cultures and ideas. To achieve this, we will prioritize practical language education in liberal arts education, enhance courses to learn diverse cultures and ways of thinking, and provide education that equips students with a comprehensive and holistic perspective and the ability to respond to globalization.

Action

1. Focusing on the International Education Center, we will verify educational effectiveness, continuously improve class content, and develop a curriculum to improve English communication skills. We will employ Specially Appointed Assistant Professors with advanced teaching skills, and work with faculties and graduate schools to reform classes and develop teaching materials to cultivate fundamental English communication skills from the general education level that can be connected to specialized education.

2. Expand international education programs such as extracurricular international education activities in the Global Village, classes taken jointly with international students, and cross-department inter-grade international training. We will also enhance their knowledge, attitudes, and skills regarding the progress of social globalization and how to respond to it. By granting global mileage to participants in these international educations, we will increase their motivation to actively participate in overseas training and study abroad. We will revise the global human resource development curriculum and assign a person in charge of Global Village to promote the above projects.

3. Enhance the summer program and student exchange program (IU-SEP) to encourage participating students to enter the advanced courses available at Iwate University and increase the total number of international students.
