A Cozy Evening in Global Village

At Iwate University there are many international students from different countries. Every country has its own heritage and culture. To combine all the multilingual cultures under one roof Iwate University has a platform named "Global Village". This platform organizes various types of events every month.

For example, those international students who want to improve their Japanese language ability can join "Japanese Cafe". Many Japanese students can help the international student improve their conversation abilities. On the other hand, there is also an event named "All in English" where people can improve their English conversation in a fun way. Besides that, there are many enjoyable games and craft events like "Ikebana Workshop" and board games events.

Last December 23, my friend and I joined an event named "Winter Holiday Party". It was a colorful event where many international and Japanese students joined to enjoy the evening. Mr. Lucas Hoshino was there to welcome us. The room was well decorated with some Christmas banners and some Christmas hat was kept there. There were different board games for us so that we can enjoy and learn the procedure of the games.

At first, we started with an easy and fun game named "Fukuwarai". This game is played with two people, one person will be blindfolded and try to adjust the cut pieces of the eye, ear, nose, etc. on a blank face-shaped paper and the other person will pass the cut pieces. I made a funny face by adjusting the cut pieces but it was enjoyable.

I saw there was a girl playing with "Kendama" and we wanted to try it out. It is a toy with a handle, two cups, and a ball connected by a string. Lucus-san helped us to learn the technique of handling the Kendama. There was a Japanese girl Miu-san told us that it is a popular traditional game in Japan. She was a skillful Kendama player and we enjoyed her guidance to play with it.

There were also a video games section and some students enjoy the fullest with video games. We met some Japanese students there who were so friendly that we didn't feel uncomfortable. They introduced us to a game named "Catan" and explained to us the procedure of playing. I found this game is similar to a game named "Monopoly". The Japanese students suggested playing the "Exploding Kittens" game with them. We joined them and try to understand how to play this. This game is a strategic card game. Miu-san explained nicely the procedure and we started the game with them. After some time I was starting to enjoy the game. Unfortunately, I lost in the first game but my friend win the game on her first attempt. I liked this game so much that I played it again with them. I spend a beautiful time playing with them and most importantly I learned some fun games.

We all need refreshments from our monotonous life even in the winter season. In winter Morioka's weather is so cold that outdoor activity is impossible. At that point, this winter holiday party refreshed our minds. Also in Bangladesh's winter season, people also love staying at home and playing indoor games with family and friends. These kinds of events help us to learn board games, interact with Japanese students and make some friends. The "Global Village" events combine the International and Japanese cultures together and make scope to react with one another.
